Skills audit – Kiya Persad
My primary research skills at the beginning of the course were very basic. This is because I didn’t have much previous practice on properly conducting thorough research of my own. Similarly, at the start my secondary research skills were very weak. However, as the course progressed I gained more practice and became better at it. As I hadn’t taken media in previous years, my scriptwriting and storyboarding skills were poor. I wasn’t very good at drawing storyboards and my scripts were very limited. Due to being on a course with people who had previously done media, I was able to get better at these skills through learning from them how to better my storyboards and scripts. At the start of the course, I had very little camera skills as I had only used the camera on my phone and had never used a professional camera to create films. However, as we had access to different types of equipment, I was able to gain experience in my camerawork. The only sound recording skills I had prior to this course were my skills in recording sound in my music course. However, in this course I learnt to use an in built microphone in the cameras and use an external microphone for voiceovers for my projects. I had never previously used editing software, so my skills were more than basic at the beginning of the course. However, as I progressed through the course, I learnt more skills such as motion tracking on my logo and title pages as well as audio and visual transitions. I was able to do this through learning basic editing skills on iMovie and then progressing to using FinalCutPro.
