•Disadvantage – It is still quite expensive for a beginner to learn on, the flash does't come on when filming, only when taking pictures, which means that you always have to use red head lights when recording with artificial lights rather than natural lights, heavy and hard to carry around

•Who best for – ‘novice’ developing camera skills.

How I used – I used it for all of my Unit 3 YP Employment final video, which included an establishing shot at the beginning and the main interviews. I also used it in Unit 2 for the filming of my advert.

•How I used – I used it in the beginning of the course for a news report video, I used it to shoot the intro, the vox pops and the main interviews. I also used it to film the focus group for my research for my final YP Employment.

•Advantage – built in microphone that picks up sound from all directions

•Disadvantage – Expensive considering the quality of the product

•Who best for – People new to filming who want to gain experience in the field.

•How I used – I didn’t use it but if I were to have used it, it would have been for fox pops or my focus groups as the quality for these parts don’t need to be of the highest quality as they aren’t the main parts to my production and I can therefore use it for these.

•Disadvantage – Only able to be used on certain cameras. Can be used as a handheld microphone

•Who best for – people doing voiceovers as it gives good quality sound.

•How I used – In voiceover for Unit 3 final production

•Price – £100

•Model – Sennheiser E845 Dynamic Handheld Microphone

•Advantage – Good for voiceovers due to the audio pickup from all directions

•Disadvantage – As the microphone is handheld, it means that it cannot be attached to the camera, which the RODE microphone can

•Who best for – Interviews, anythign where there is a person asking questions and needs to use a handheld microphone. 

•How I used – I didn’t use this camera but I could have used it for my voiceover as this microphone is good for recording audio and would allow my voiceover to be very clear.

iMovie

•Price – £10.34 (on the app store once the mac has been bought)

•Features –

•Model – iMovie 10.1.1

•Advantage – Easy to use, accessible from the app store which means that once the Mac is bought it doesn’t cost much to get the editing software,

•Disadvantage – Very basic, doesn’t have complex tools which can cause productions to look less professional

•Who best for – Beginners to editing

•How I used – I used it at the beginning of the course to get used to editing software.

•Disadvantage – it is only available on Macintosh computers. Rendering can take a long time. Footage can sometimes get disconnected from your time line

Only available for Mac computers, rendering footage takes a long time and footage can often get disconnected if not on the server.

•How I used – I didn’t use it during this year but I plan on using it next year as it has more tools that will enable me to have better editing skills and make better productions
